The 4th of July is filled with Parades, BBQs and fireworks and VFW Post 10047 has their annual celebration, about 200 people attended. Kathy Best from Sterling Limited has volunteered for the last 35 years. Kathy is an event coordinator and plans all the food and entertainment for the event. She said that she has it down to a science. Kathy’s company donated all the food for the event.
Post Commander Dan Meyers organized the day with his loyal members. Dan also sold raffle tickets to all that he could talk into buying them. They had raffles, beer brats, karaoke, and lots of fun. Thomas Reyes, Treasure of Post 10047, sings one song every year the “Ballad of the Green Berets” and gets a standing ovation. Henry “Butch” Beltran, Jr Vice Commander Dept. Of Nevada VFW was there to enjoy the festivities.
Stephen Gibbs and his team started cooking and preparing the food at 8AM for the day. Stephan also reminded everyone that the raffle tickets for the customized motorcycle are still on sale for $10.00 at the post (4337 N Las Vegas Blvd.) The drawing will be on September 21 on POW/MIA Day at 8PM.
The Post also put a float in the Pahrump 4th of July Parade which they won a trophy for the “Most Family- Friendly” it was a train pulled by a John Deere lawn mower driven by Tyrone Macafee. Saundra and Tony Marshall attended the Pahrump Parade representing VFW Post 10047.
