North Las Vegas, Nevada — Amazon today announced plans to open its largest facility in Nevada in North Las Vegas, creating more than 1,000 full-time jobs with immediate benefits.
The customer fulfillment center, Amazon’s third major logistics facility in North Las Vegas, will be located on land being developed near the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. The footprint of Amazon’s new building will be more than 800,000 square feet, and the building will include three stories, for a total of 2.4 million square feet of new e-commerce space in North Las Vegas.
The project is being developed by VanTrust Real Estate, LLC.
Fulfillment center employees will pick, pack and ship small items, such as books, electronics and toys, to customers. The facility will feature innovative technology including Amazon Robotics that will assist employees in fulfilling orders.
“The rapidly expanding presence of Amazon in North Las Vegas speaks to the relationship the City has cultivated with the company, and the ease and speed of doing business in North Las Vegas, efforts that are paying off in dividends by creating thousands of jobs for our hardworking residents and growing our City’s tax base,” North Las Vegas Mayor John Lee said. “This first-of-its-kind facility for Nevada highlights the innovation and technology that North Las Vegas has come to be known for, and we wish Amazon ongoing success as our organizations continue to grow together.”
“We’re excited to open a new, state-of-the-art fulfillment center in North Las Vegas and to continue innovating in a state committed to providing great opportunities for jobs and customer experience. Nevada has a talented workforce, and we are happy to add to the more than 3,000 associates already serving customers in the state,” said Sanjay Shah, Amazon’s Vice President of North America Customer Fulfillment.
The fulfillment center, scheduled for a mid-2019 opening, will be located on Sloan Lane between Ann Road and Tropical Parkway. Development in the area is the direct result of the City’s vision and initiative to launch the Northeast Interceptor Project, a $43 million sewer and road extension project.
Full-time employees at Amazon receive competitive hourly wages and a comprehensive benefits package including health insurance, disability insurance, 401(k) and company stock awards starting on day one. The company also offers up to 20 weeks of maternal and parental paid leave and innovative benefits such as Leave Share and Ramp Back, which give new parents flexibility to care for their growing families.
Amazon also offers full-time employees innovative programs like Career Choice, in which the company pre-pays up to 95 percent of tuition for courses related to in-demand fields, regardless of whether the skills are relevant to a career at Amazon. Since the program’s launch, more than 12,000 employees have pursued degrees in game design and visual communications, nursing, IT programming and radiology, to name a few.
