The Pahrump community came together for an evening program with Dignitaries and Speakers to remember that Memorial Day is a day set aside for all Americans to reflect and remember, and pay tribute to the brave men and women who paid the ultimate sacrifice in defense of our Country.
The program opened with the patriotic music of the Pahrump Valley High School Band led by Director Michael Wineski and closed with the playing of TAPS by Tom Saitta. Recognized immediately were all GOLD STAR Family Members. The program itself included comments from US Senator Dean Heller, Assemblyman James Oscarson, Nye County Commissioner Chairman John Koenig, Nye County Commissioner Vice Chairman Dan Schinhofen, Nye County District Attorney Angela Bello, Nye County Sheriff Sharon Wehrly, and inspirational words to the youth in attendance from Nye County Under-Sheriff Michael Eisenloffel.
Another hi-light of the program was the Wreath Laying Ceremony by the DAV Auxiliary, Unit 15 followed by the POW/MIA Tribute led by the 1st Junior Vice Commander Cles Saunders.
The DAV Chapter 15 Commander, Greg Cardarelli commented that the Disabled American Veterans know from personal experience that this day has a profound meaning for the families, loved ones, and friends of the men and women who answered the call to serve in the Armed Forces of this great Nation, and paid the ultimate sacrifice to defend the freedoms all Americans are able to enjoy. We will never forget – Freedom is not free.
The DAV Chapter 15 Commander and all Chapter members ask all Americans to join us in saluting not only those who have given their all, but also those who continue to serve at home and in foreign lands.
