Downtown Cares hosted it’s 8th annual event on June 2nd at Veterans Village#2, 50 N 21st Street. Downtown Cares is a joint effort to support a non-profit here in the valley. The two young women that have organized this great day are Tiffany Twohig and Katie Fine and have for the last few years. With over a hundred volunteers coming together to make cards and care packages for the non-profit. Some of the volunteers also work on the properties giving them a fresh coat of paint or repair as needed.
Julie Murray is the owner of Moonridge Group which does community building work, community engagement is one of the sponsors for this event, they bring paint, flowers, food, supplies and other businesses to volunteer for the projects.
Dr. Arnold Stalk has been involved with Downtown Cares since the beginning. He said that what was happening at Veterans Village #2 was a mini makeover and much needed pantry cleaning and organization. Downtown Cares finds different places in the area that needs help and organizes the project once a year.
