On April 14th and 15th the Gold Star Wives had their annual conference in Colorado Springs. This event is held in memory of the love-ones these women have lost or are missing in action. Northwest Region President Claire Manning- Dick resided over the activities. They join together to tell their stories and support one another.
Gold Star Wives of America, Inc. exists to preserve and enhance benefits to surviving United States military spouses and their children; to help our members and their children face the future with courage and determination, and to honor the memory of our military spouses who made the ultimate sacrifice.
One of the ladies Martha Baker who is a veteran herself, served as an Army Nurse from 1951- 1971 in Korea and also Vietnam, lost her husband, who also served in the Army for 36 years, to Cancer after being involved in nuclear testing. When Martha retired from the Army she went home to Denver, having no children of her own, she became a JROTC Teacher for 12 years in four different high schools. She is very passionate in the program Woman in Military Service and continues to participate in different activities at a very young 90 years old.
