Joel Forman, American Legion Department Commander


Joel M. Forman elected as Department Commander for The American Legion in Nevada. He is a 13-year member of Spirit of Freedom Post 76 in Las Vegas and was Post Commander for 4 years, 2nd District Commander for 2 years and a Department Officer or the past 3 years. Married for 48 years, he and his wife have 2 daughters and seven grandchildren. He was born in Chelsea, Massachusetts and is a 1970 graduate of the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and owned a pharmacy for 23 years. Enlisted in the U.S. Army and served for six years as a combat medic/pharmacist, as the Army could not make up its mind. After moving to Las Vegas in 1996 he retired as a pharmacy manager for C.V.S. and at the same time worked as assistant manager for Catch A Rising Star Comedy Club both at the MGM and Excalibur. He was a 25-year member of the International Lions Clubs and held every office from Lion Tamer up to Club President and on to Zone Chairman. He is a graduate of The American Legion College, class of 2016.

Currently serving as Board of Directors member of V.V.A. Chapter 17 (3years), and the Patriot Guard Riders of Southern Nevada. As of last Thursday, he has represented The American Legion at 771 interments of unaccompanied Veterans at the SNVMC over 219 Thursday mornings. He is a member of the Color/Honor Guards for his Post and Chapter.

He was recently appointed a member of the Selective Service System for Clark County.
