Marine Corps League’s Greater Nevada Detachment 186, 8th Annual Charity Golf Tournament was held at the Las Vegas National Golf Club on May 19th. Co-chairs of this event were Dave Jochman, and Don McCarty. There were 90 golfers that attended. The opening ceremony speaker Commandant Dan O’Connell and the shotgun start was at 8am with the players shooting for the trophy of their dreams. A buffet lunch was provided and over 50 different raffle prizes.
First Place went to the Sims with a 57, and closes to the pin went to Walter McGee, who was wounded in Vietnam and lost both of his legs. He has a special chair donated to him by Heroes in the Rough, which allows him to play golf and keeps him mobile.
Also present for the morning was Lt. General Bedard and family, who organized the Nevada Outdoor Adventure Foundation. Nevada Outdoor Adventure Foundation is an organization which takes disabled veterans and terminally ill youth hunting or fishing to put a smile back on their faces. General Bedard started this foundation 8 months ago with the help of family and other retired military personal.
Proceeds from the tournament went to Heroes in the Rough, 22 Warrior Foundation, Nevada Outdoor Adventure Foundation, Veterans Village, Toys for Tots, and Red, White and Blue Dog Tags.
