On September 8th, the Society of Military Widows Chapter 34 held their bi-monthly luncheon meeting at The Bridge at Paradise Valley (2205 E Harmon Ave, Las Vegas, NV 89119). The pledge of allegiance was led, as by World War II veteran and honorary member Ken Hill. Janet Snyder reminded members if they do volunteer work to report their hours to the group, as any SMW Chapter 34 member volunteer work is the chapter’s volunteer work and needs to be on record.
President of SMW Chapter 34 Su Phelps says, “SMW has brightening up the invitation list recently. We believe that widowers can be our honorary members.” and so, special guest Ken Martin Vietnam veteran and widower did opening prayer. The group also welcomed new members Margie Gallagher and Grace Woessner into their ranks.
Members also thanked Vito Valdez, Army Survivor Outreach Services Support Coordinator, who assists members and all military survivors with their smooth transition with services including helping them through the paperwork required to receive their benefits. “Vito is our hero!” says founding member Janet Snyder.
Fellow member Jeanne Lewis is the Chairwoman of Sunshine club, where members take care of each other’s well-being with birthday or get-well cards, visiting, calling and in an emergency, contact help.
Francesca Gonzales, Sales Director of The Bridge introduced The Bridge’s facilities to the group and gave a tour. Upcoming events were announced:
