On August 15, the Southern NV Blue Sox won the 2017 American Legion World Series championship.  Right-hander Shane Spencer and the Blue Sox topped Creighton Prep (Nebraska) 2-1, in Shelby, North Carolina.  The Blue Sox are composed mostly of players from Basic High School, which has won the last two NV State Class 4A Championships.  The Blue Sox won the World Series tournament, which began with over 4600 teams from across the nation.  Upon the team’s return to Las Vegas on Wednesday, August 16th, Clark County Commissioner Jim Gibson presented the team with the key to the Las Vegas Strip.

Head Coach Scott Baker has held the reins for the Blue Sox for more than 6 years.  Over half of the 25 team members have family that is either currently serving or has served in the military.  American Legion Post #40 has sponsored the team for over 37 years.  Through hard-work, dedication, sacrifice and teamwork, the Blue Sox achieved the dream for every team – to be on top at the end of the season.
