On Wednesday October 11, 2017 the 7th semi- annual Veterans helping Veterans Service Fair was held at the Dula Gymnasium. This event is held twice a year to help homeless Veterans and low income Veterans with their needs for the winter or the summer. Kelly Moshman, from Neighborhood Family Services, and Neil Johnson, president of the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 1076, co-chairs the event. Members of American Legion Post 76 presented the Colors.
The event consisted of numerous Veteran organization including American Legion and Auxiliary Post 14, VVA chapter 17, Catholic War Veterans and Auxiliary Post 1947, the Veterans Hospital, doing vision and dental screening, Job Connect, offering help with resumes and job applications, Goodwill Industries offering clothing for the months to come, Salvation Army, Housing help by Berkshire Hathaway Home Services, readjustment and family life counseling, legal assistance, Judge Sarah Gosa from the Justice Court/ Veterans Treatment Court, Social Security, Dept of Motor Vehicles, and pet check-ups for their furry companions.
Member of the congress were also represented, Congresswomen, Jackie Rosen by Blake Boles and Dina Titus by Hunter King and Representative Ruben Kihuen by Kevin Schmidt. Congressman Dean Heller was represented by Ryan Dutiel, which handed out a book Nevada Veterans Resource Book for Senator Heller.
There were more than 700 in attendance for the event seeking help. The response from the volunteers that was helping the Vets was great and the support was awesome.
