This past August, our Lodge was approached by Wheelchairs 4 Kids out of Tarpon Springs, FL. They had a request for an adaptive tricycle for a Las Vegas child with microcephaly and congenital hypotonia. Wheelchairs 4 Kids have worked with a Florida Elks Lodge and asked if we would be able to donate some money towards this local child.

Hypotonia means Aylin has decreased muscle tone and needs help walking. She had been using a specially-made tricycle in physical therapy sessions and while her family saw improvement, they couldn’t afford to buy one for her to use at home.

Our Lodge decided to fund the total cost of the tricycle at approximately $1,300. It was shipped to us and member Fred Simione did a great job assembling the tricycle. Wheelchairs 4 Kids were notified and they in turn notified the family as well as local news outlets and arranged this special presentation.

Last Thursday, we had the honor to present the chair to four-year-old Aylin and her parents, Alfredo and Crestal Teran.

What a great feeling to see a child so happy.
