SMW Chapter #34 met on the first Sunday in November, so our members could participate in Veterans Day activities on November 11. Normally we meet on the second Sunday of every other month. President Su Phelps opened the meeting and welcomed all members and guests. Chaplain Kym Ennis gave the opening prayer. Gold Star son Nathan Kellner led the Pledge of Allegiance.  Secretary/Treasurer Babette Kellner gave a briefing about the new FEDVIP Dental/Vision Plan. Wreaths Across America Chair Judy Cobb explained how to order wreaths for the December 15 Wreaths Across America Day at the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Boulder City.  Denise Ashurst presented a certificate from PrideinPurity to SMW Chapter #34, thanking us for our mutual support. Janet Snyder, Founding President, accepted the certificate.  Keynote speaker was VFW Post 10047 Commander Dan Myers, who talked about his service to our country and as Commander of the VFW Post 10047, welcoming us to join VFW Post 10047 and the Auxiliary.  Guest Terry Care from the Las Vegas office of Congresswoman Dina Titus (NV-1) won the 50/50 drawing and donated the proceeds to PrideinPurity for their continuing projects and trips for young people.  President Su Phelps announced the next meeting will be held on Sunday, January 13, 2019, at the VFW Post 10047 Events Hall.

All are welcome to attend and participate with us in the Society of Military Widows of Southern Nevada Chapter #34. Denise Ashurst is not a widow. She is a retired U.S. Air Force Veteran and a wonderful person. Kenneth Hill is a WWII Veteran who was honored by Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval and Nevada Department of Veterans Services as October Veteran of the Month. SMW is not an Officers Wives Club or an NCO Wives Club. We are a group of military widows and widowers, most of us don’t even know the rank of our members’ servicemember spouses. It doesn’t matter. What is important is we are here to support each other, to share experiences and camaraderie. We also educate each other on the latest benefits and legislative news on issues that affect all of us in the military community. Normally we meet every other month on the second Sunday.
