Serving as your Councilman has been an honor, and although we’ve accomplished a lot for our community and veterans, there is still much to do! I moved to North Las Vegas nearly 20 years ago and got involved with the community right away after being denied the permission to fly my American flag after 9/11. I joined many community groups, organizations and helped with a multitude of projects within the neighborhoods that I was appointed to City Council in 2009. After winning reelection in 2015, I’m very happy to say we’ve taken North Las Vegas away from the brink of receivership. We expanded the economic opportunity in the area by bringing such major store brands and businesses such as Sephora, Amazon, Fanatics, Texas Roadhouse, Café Rio, Apex, and other potential job providers, all while ensuring the environment is protected. Tule Springs Fossil Bed National Monument is a very special place to me, and I’m proud of the work Sierra Club and NLV City Council accomplished together to complete in order to preserve such pristine land.
I have been very involved in veteran affairs for many years. Not only am I involved, but I truly respect the sacrifice our men and women in uniform have made for our country. I founded and currently chair the Armed Forces, Military Veterans and First Responders Appreciation Inc, which is a non-profit formed in 2014 to assist military, veterans & their families, and first responders in need during the year. Through this work, I’ve been able to work alongside so many wonderful people that help to provide services to many veterans in need including who work diligently to improve the VA in North Las Vegas, and raise money for issues near and dear to veterans, their families, and first responders. NLV IS THE ONLY Municipality that has a Veterans Community Commission which I chaired before being elected to city council in 2015.
As I earned the trust of our police, firefighters, and many other unions, organizations and supporters, I hope to earn your support by being accessible and available. Only in that way can we be successful and continue the improvement we’ve witnessed over the last 4 years in Ward 4.
