SAMS Post 711: Our Recent Activities

By Steve Andrascik

SAMS Post 711 has been very busy recently. Post 711 has hosted and attended more than 54 events so far this year. These are short summaries of the more recent events we’ve attended.

On August 19, one of our members, Kurtis Dunphy; our Finance Officer, and his wife, Theresa were the gracious hosts of a pot luck social at their home. It was well attended. Everyone enjoyed the great food and drink.

On Sept. 8, Post Commander Ed Gilmore; Sergeant of the Color Guard, Larry Morton; Adjutant, Curtis Dunphy; Finance Officer and Daniel McDonald attended the Vietnam Veterans of America (VVA) Chapter 17 meeting and accepted a generous donation. A big thanks to a great organization.

Members attended the post shoot at American Shooters, then enjoyed comradeship, food and drinks at The Leatherneck Club. The Marine watering hole has great food and Guinness on tap. They also have quite a museum.

On Sept. 15 and 16, Ed Gilmore and I shared a table at the Mid West Gun Show at the Las Vegas Convention Center South Hall. The event had firearms, antiques, shooting related clothing, and ammunition on display. We received donations to our scholarship fund and attracted three new members during the show.

The Sons of the American Revolution has invited Ed Gilmore to be a guest at their dinner on Sept. 22. Gilmore will give a short talk on the Scottish American Military Society (SAMS) at the dinner. If you’d like to join us, our next meeting is Sept. 23, 3pm at Denny’s on Boulder Highway.
