On Monday, May 27th, Nevada Department of Veterans Services hosted a Memorial Day ceremony at the Southern Nevada Veterans Cemetery chapel. Each year thousands attend the ceremony, and it was no different this year. A couple days before thousands of volunteers placed more than 29,515 flags in preparation for this ceremony. By the beginning of the ceremony, over a thousand cars packed the cemetery. The keynote speakers include the Judge Mark Stevens, Henderson Municipal Court Chief Judge, Veterans Treatment Court and Nevada Department of Veterans Services Deputy Director Fred Wager.
The dignitaries who attended in person are Congressman Steven Horsford, Congresswoman Susie LEE, city of Henderson Councilwoman Gerri Schroder. There were over a thousand attendees to honor the ceremony.
This year the ceremony is sponsored by the Military Order of the Purple Heart and the Southern Nevada Chapters 711 & 730, in cooperation with the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery staff, Cemetery Advisory Committee, and Cemetery Volunteer Group.
