On March 27th, Walker Furniture gifted brand new furniture to the Communities In Schools (CIS) of Nevada resource room at Canyon Springs High Schools to the winner of their “Elevate Your GPA” scholastic competition, offering the room remodel as a reward for the CIS of Nevada Academy Class with the highest GPA increase during the 2018 fall semester. Co-Owner of Walker Furniture Linda Alterwitz-Mizrahi says she hopes having the furniture will stay as a consistent reminder to the students of their hard work in the competition.

The winning class, Canyon Springs High School’s Junior Academy Class, saw a 6.7 percent overall student GPA increase, with 88.5 percent of the students showing growth. The student Amia Henderson with the highest growth, also at Canyon Springs High School, had an overall GPA increase of 64 percent. Overall, the GPA across the 10 participating CIS Academy Classes within Clark County School District increased by 4 percent, growing 2 percent more than last year.

Following the delivery of the new furniture, including a sectional, bookcase, table and lamp, storage ottoman, decorative tree, tables for studying and two desk chairs, Walker Furniture will also hold a pizza party celebrating the students’ success and the remodel of their resource room.
