American Legion Post 149’s Rock the Troops

By: Victor Moss, Adjutant of American Legion Paradise Post 149
The American Legion Paradise Post 149 hosted the 15th Annual Rock the Troops Poker Run, to raise money for the local Military and Veterans Community.  The 15th Annual Rock the Troops Poker Run was a huge success, bringing in over $12,000 to our Post for our Veterans Affairs and Rehabilitation (VA&R) programs.
This year, over 150 riders participated in this daylong event held at the Leatherneck Club with food provided by John Mull’s Meats Road Kill Grill.  Others who helped this year were active duty military members from the 57th MUNS at Nellis AFB, as well as several members of the Pal Verde Air Force JROTC program who helped serve the food. More than 50 people came to volunteer their time for the event.
Thanks to Post 149’s other major sponsors, Walker Furniture, Schuetze and McGaha’s Legal Ride, Post 149 continues to work with local businesses to help their fellow Veterans. This year, Walker Furniture provided patriotic pins to everyone as well as some finger foods in their snack bar, Brooklyn’s best pizza gave everyone a discount on slices of pizza as well as four pies for our raffle, and the VFW Post 10047 pitched in with breakfast burritos, hotdogs and hamburgers. At the end each person draws five cards and the person with the best and worst hands win.
